been listening alot to an American band called Paramore, rather emo if your into that kinda thing but theyve got some catchy tunes and the singer has a brilliant voice despite the fact that shes only 17.

If you want to give them a listen google them and check out their myspace site.

Tyrael - Paramore are my absolute favourite band, I posted about them in the last forum, I've liked them ever since their first demo came out, I'm one of their first devoted fans (even got an e-mail from them!) and I absolutely love them. I don't agree about them being emo, sorry I hate it when people use emo to describe bands like paramore, Hayley is one of my heroes, shes really down to earth, she is fun and she has an amazing talent.

I don't really get what the fuss about emo is about anyway. If you get a lot of metallers in a room in plain non-descript clothes, no make-up allowed, and asked them about world views a lot of them would agree.
Everyone in metal expresses their views through their music in different ways, but when it comes down to it they agree on a lot of issues.
Picking fights and slagging each other off for the sake of it just makes people hypocritical, cos they're doing exactly what they moan about chavs doing.

hmmm yeah i dont get why the emo genre takes such a beating, even fans of bands that have become classed as emo are repulsed by their favourite band being classed in the category. Its ridiculous really, some of the first alternative bands i got into were emo bands, bands such as Jimmy Eat World and Dashboard Confessional who are both lyrically and musically very talented.

There are still bands around who do fit into the original sound of the early emo bands (Paramore being one of them). However the whole genre has mutated to encompass any band with an emo look or fanbase. Coheed and Cambria are a good example of this. If anything they would normally be classed as prog rock but because of their largely 'scene' fanbase they have ended up being categorised as emo. Its not a bad thing.... just not accurate to their sound

I consider myself to have a hugely varied musical taste, and i dont really fit to a particular style that would class me as chav, trendy, scene, goth or whatever. When i was a bit younger i did try to fit into an alternative look but as ive grown up and matured a bit ive just come to appreciate music for what it is.

At the end of the day music genres are there as a guide, particulary as far as alternative music is concerned the genre doesnt define exactly how a band will sound, and its for exactly that reason that people shouldnt be put off listening to a band simply because they have been given a particular tag.

Sorry for the rant i just get really worked up when people start getting silly about the emo genre Very Happy

Hey, you're absolutely right. Though when people see me they usually think goth/metaller (or as a nice chav put it the other week 'omg, she's so weird!) Razz
I listen to metal predominantly, pretty much any metal so long as I like the lyrics and can differentiate between the tracks of the band. But then I also like other music like classic/folk/ambient and even cross the metal and folk genres over for music which it seems many can't stand Razz
I just don't get why bands who are pro-individuality and expression, fight and bitch about each other.

I think the thing about the emo genre is that emo has become a derogatory term when describing a lot of bands, and because it is derogatory it is used badly and for the wrong bands.

Fall out boy for example, all the people who don't like them call them emo, but all their fans know that they aren't emo, I'm neutral on FOB but I know that they aren't emo, they are nothing like the early "proper" emo bands, and have no similarities with the original bands. Emo is only truly present in a more underground scene, calling bands like fall out boy emo is absolutely ridiculous to anyone with any knowledge on the matter. It is the people who use the word with no knowledge of it that annoy me, this is why i get annoyed about the whole emo thing, I don't want to, but when I hear people saying, "oh I hate emo bands like FOB and panic! at the disco" I get annoyed because what they have just said is complete and utter rubbish!

This is why there is disagreement over the word emo, it is purely a knowledge issue if you ask me, there are people who don't have a clue, who cause the argument, there are not enough people who understand true emo that can stop the other clueless people from saying it.

Just my two cents^^ I've spent a long time reading about emo, because this argument comes up again and again....
