this is an idea that Alex Scarrow has come up with for his book called A Thousand Suns.
Viral Marketing, go have a watch, leave a comment and send the link to others, he wants to see how far this can go, it may be an idea for other authors like James and Rob for future books to boost sales.

I like this idea _________________ "Right so we're going to steal a bomb that can be remote detonated, take it back to our base and then huddle around it? That sounds like a great plan." |

There are a couple of media agencies in the US who specialise in putting together trailers for books, either as Flash movies or Apple Quicktime films, often mixing live actors and CGI (albeit with mixed results).
It is a good concept, if only to bring a title to the attention of a wider audience, but it's expensive (thousands of dollars per trailer, iirc) which means that most genre authors would have to have very forward-thinking publicists with deep pockets to take proper advantage.
And for me the acid test is always going to be the strength of the first few paragraphs of the book. There's just no substitute for a good old free excerpt... _________________ www.uksfbooknews.net - fantasy, sf, horror and graphic novel news from UK genre authors, creators and publishers.

yes but would a trailer make you pick the book up and read the blurb, the idea is to make you want to at least check the book next time your in the book shop.
BTW: this trailer was all done using 3DS MAx |

That's a very nice bit of CGI trailering, and no mistake...
I think if I was a bigger alt-history fan than I am, and particularly if I was interested in WWII fiction, conspiracy theories and so forth, then that trailer would certainly be enough to get me to click on the author's website and find out more. And so I did...
...but then, that's where the website itself fails to deliver. There's nothing (that I could find) except the cover image and a short synopsis of the book. Where's the free excerpt so I can get a feel for the author's writing, decide whether it's good enough to carry me through the whole novel? Or failing that, where (at the very least) is the link to Amazon so I can see if there are any reader reviews? Hope this will be taken as constructive criticism, but a glossy brochure isn't going to be enough to sway most potential book-buyers.
So, mission accomplished vis-a-vis the trailer itself... but then the trailer is just the attention-grabber, the whole package needs better follow-through; more substance. _________________ www.uksfbooknews.net - fantasy, sf, horror and graphic novel news from UK genre authors, creators and publishers.

You're welcome mate. I do this sort of thing professionally, so if you ever need an opinion (I'm good at those, too... ) _________________ www.uksfbooknews.net - fantasy, sf, horror and graphic novel news from UK genre authors, creators and publishers.
