there was also the woman abusing ... or man abusing if you were an extremely manly but straight woman ... (actually probably not that last part but you never now)

That goes on in all cultures. Women actually had a hell of a lot more control over their lives than people seem to believe.
They were also extremely open-minded about homosexuality too. So more progressive in their attitudes than people these days.
