Excellent choice too! I've not seen the new film version of this. Wasn't too sure having Brendan Fraser in it was a good move, so I dont know if it's as bad as they say, but I loved the old original version.
Watched it when I was little and loved it Smile

I finished reading 'The Watchers out of Time' (H.P Lovecraft and August Derleth) over the weekend. Very atmospheric and scary but totally let down by what felt like 95% of the book being filled with stories about impressionable young men inheriting haunted houses from creepy relatives and then being menaced by evil stuff. I mean, come on! Did none of these young men ever meet each other and get talking about all the scary houses that were suddenly on the market? What happened during the 1920s/30s to make all the creepy old relatives (just the ones in the Massachusetts area) die off all of a sudden? And why did August Derleth feel like he had to use the word 'batrachian' at least once every page?

And breathe...

My full review is over Here...
I'm now reading Gregory Frost's 'Lord Tophet' and it looks like it's going to be as good as 'Shadowbridge'...

I finished reading Gregory Frost's 'Lord Tophet' this morning. It's got everything in it that I loved about 'Shadowbridge' but I was left thinking that maybe a hundred extra pages would have answered all the questions that I had about it... My full review is over Here.
I'm now well into John Scalzi's 'Agent to the Stars' and it's pretty damn great so far! Very Happy

Finished Sapkowski's 'Blood of Elves' and feeling a little underwhelmed...

Good book, well written - brilliant, in fact, considering it has been translated into english and still manages to flow and hold its humour. Just a tad disappointed it's very much a set-up for the next book and I'll be forced to wait again. Sad

I know how you feel about it - I started reading Sapkowski when he was still writing his novels, so I had to wait over a year for each new book, and it was hard.

I've just finished reading John Scalzi's 'Agent to the Stars', the tale of a Hollywood agent who is hired to introduce a benevolent (but very ugly and smelly) alien race to humanity...
This is a book that sometimes falls prey to the tropes that it is trying to play off but is otherwise funny and moving in equal measure. My full review is over Here.
I'm now finishing up on Brian Keene's 'Castaways' which is all about a reality TV show invaded by mutant ape tribesmen and is scarier than it seems...

Sounds like something they should do to the big brother house.

The Flowing Queen by Kai Meyer. I'm actually reading the Enghlish translation of a book, originally written in German... Rolling Eyes it's an interesting experience Laughing (especially because they actually changed one name), but I'll stick to the original language in the future, again.

That looks so cool Very Happy Unfortunately, not do I have no cable tv I don't have a tv licence either... Sad

I've just finished reading L.H. Maynard & M.P.N Sims' 'Black Cathedral'; a story of a haunted island, shadowy government departments and... er... Jesuits! I loved the concept and the execution with some moments that were really quite scary. This was the case right up until the end when the entire thing was spoilt by the biggest cop-out ending I think I've ever read. Dammit... My full review is over Here.
I'm now reading 'Jake's Wake' by John Skipp and Cory Goodfellow which is turning out to be a lot better so far...

I've just finished reading John Skipp and Cody Goodfellow's 'Jake's Wake', the story of a small town preacher/conman who comes back from the dead to really spice things up at his own funeral (as well as torturing people and generally being evil)...
Jake himself errs more on the cartoonish side of evil but the book makes up for this with a chilling build up and lashings of gore. I thought the ending was bloody good as well (although I can't say too much without giving it away) My full review is over Here.
I'm now reading 'The Pilo Family Circus' by Will Elliott.

I've just read Paul Kearney's The Ten Thousand. The Macht are a nation of mercenary fighters and ten thousand of them are hired by the king's brother to usurp him. It has similarities to 300. I think alot of Raven and Ascendants fans would like it despite the lack of magic. It is a soldier's tale (or rather a few soldiers) and I liked the lead characters. It's kind of blunt, a bit bleak and coarse, which works when you take it as a story of soldiers.

It lacked a bit of depth in places so I'll give it 7/10

Just started The House of Stag - I'll let you know Deornorth Very Happy

I hope you like it (I loved it) Very Happy

I finished reading 'The Pilo Family Circus' (Will Elliott) last night, the tale of a man battling his murderous alter-ego in an inter-dimensional circus... Strangely unsettling yet absolutely hilarious at the same time, very atmospheric and full of characters that will get under your skin. My full review is over Here.
I'm now reading Kelley Armstrong's 'Living with the Dead'...
