Like a lot of you I grew up on the works of David Eddings and although he has his critics I feel he did a lot for fantasy in the 90's that made it more mainstream.

Anyway David died on Tuesday, more details here:

Very sad - he brought me into the world of fantasy, and whilst I think his star waned with his later series, the Belgariad, Mallorean, Elenium and Tamuli series still have a fond place in my heart.

Tis very sad, it made me feel nostalgic and though my reading tastes have moved on I still possess some of the old series and I still remember Sparhawk with fondness... Smile

A great shame indeed. He really pushed open the door of the genre, bringing in a mass audience and showing how epics can be written over multiple volumes.

Loved the Belgariad, like so many. And went on to read everything by anyone in the genre as a result.

I didn't know...

How very upsetting.

I introduced many people to fantasy via Eddings.

Seems we are losing many greats recently, Gemmell, Jorden and now Eddings.

I will toast the man right now...

And Robert Holdstock ("Mythago Wood"), who died on 29 November.
