Once I also started playing the guitar, but somehow I stopped, now I'm really sorry for that as last week I saw again lots of people playing the guitarr and it's such a beautiful instrument Rolling Eyes

That's what i'm like with the cello. I used to play when I was 11, but then I had to start paying for the lessons (they were done through school), and cos my sister had got a lot of expensive things from my parents that year I said I didn't want to continue playing. The lessons were really expensive...still regret doing it though. Cello's a great instrument.

Cellos are really cool Cool 2 weeks ago I've been to a concert of Copellius, they play Metal, but on instruments you wouldn't really expect from a Metal-Band: Cello, contrabass and two clarinets (OK, and drums), and they sound so great.

Unusual instruments in metal are really cool! Just look at Corvus Corax, they;re not exactly your usual type of band.
A bit of uniqueness makes for more fun, I think Smile

Keyboards and drums. I was very average at both of them but that doesn't stop the fun...

I still plan to learn the guitar but when I will find the time is one of life's very big questions.

I played the trumpet/cornet when I was younger (was in a brass band for a while), and also played the piano. I have a piano in my house, and although it's slightly out of tune at the moment, I still play for my enjoyment/relaxation.

Yup, true. Black with bolts of electric blue lightening.

Also got the Fender today. Needs a clean and a new scratch plate but other than that, it's sweet. Smile

And I have finally named it, too Smile Now all I have to do is get the 25-30w Amp and the cable to connect them.

Hi Selik...

Keyboards for about six years until I sold them at 19 to buy a drum kit. Played drums for five years until I sold them to buy a paintball gun (something I am sure Manty will approve of).

I played keyboards in a college band that had about two rehearsals before musical differences (i.e. lack of ability) broke it up. And never played drums in anger really, just helped out others from time to time.

I am not terribly musical but I love the process and complexity of it. Hopefully I'll pick up an instrument again when Oscar is a little older.

I got my nephew a mini drumkit for his first birthday...he loved it and has loved music ever since. Not too sure my sister was too impressed mind Twisted Evil
He then broke them in a very rock n' roll way by throwing them against a wall. (He was 18 months old and the neighbour played music full blast at 3 in the morning).

Used to know someone who scared the hell out of their drum tutor cos she took her anger out a little too much on the drums.

Plus side is now you can get pads to lessen the noise, too, which for when I move up north in a couple of months will be handy since i'll be in a terraced house Razz

I never liked putting pads on the skins. I hope the technology has improved since my use but the response to the sticks was totally different and the dull thunking noise was rubbish. Not at all satisfying.

Oh and on another note *waits from rotten veg to be thrown* is there anyone else out there who plays instruments without having any knowhow on reading music?
I get lots of people thinking i'm mental cos I randomly play anything I get my hands on, despite being crap at reading music; in fact I just plain can't. I do it all by sound. Anyone else like that at all?

Late answer I know Rolling Eyes
That's quite interesting, as in another Forum I someone complained about the opposite, he was able to read music, but some people claimed, that 'real musicians' should be able to play a piece after hearing it Very Happy .
And for me...well I actually need both Confused I can read music, but it sounds well - strange when I play a piece I never heard before. I need it to get the right rythm. OK in theory I know which sign is for a half-beat or quarter-beat-tone and so on but if I don't have the actual piece on my mind, I find it difficult to play it the right way.

I really hope you could anderstand half of the things I wanted to say, but couldn't as I don't know that much English music-terms

Smile I get what you're saying. I think we need a few more people like those from this other forum in my area.
People around here are very judgemental (though that could be because I went to a school where everyones heads were stuck up their...hmm, yeah well) anyway, it seems that you're only accepted as a musician if you can read music around here, unless you're in an alternative bar where half the people can't read music and play ten times better than those who can Wink
Still, I think there's bonuses to being both. Having the ability to read music, helps a lot but on the other hand, if you can't read music, then you have to use your hearing a alot more and train yourself to listen for things you mightn't otherwise have to because it's all written down. At least that's my take on it anyway.
