But what of England? What's next for us?

In a really weird way I'm actually glad that we're out. If we'd qualified then the FA would have just ignored all the dross that England had produced over the course of the qualifiers and McClaren (nice guy but blatantly underqualified) would still be in a job. (Not that he's complaining, nice little payoff he got there...)
Hopefully the next England manager will be someone who can do the job instead of someone who's picked because he's English...

McClaren should have never got the job IMHO, and although I'd prefer to be at Euro 2008 (but hey, we'd never win it!!!) I think this is good for the country. The image of McClaren under an umbrella on the touchline sums it all up.

In terms of a way forward, my choices would be Mourinho, O'Neill, or (and this is off the wall, I know!) Klinsmann and Shearer (maybe with Pearce as a coach as well?). Oh, and a mighty kick up the backside to all the players - they need a high tempo, hard tackling and lots of passion, something I didn't see against Croatia. Who I may support at Euro 2008 as I liked their play, and Bilic is a good manager (anyone who says "we were simply better than you, that's why we won" gets a gold star in his book from me!!!)
