I get that too. It's just not on when they expect you to work and interupt that reading time isnt it. _________________ "Right so we're going to steal a bomb that can be remote detonated, take it back to our base and then huddle around it? That sounds like a great plan." |

Well, in that case I should be grateful, my philosophy-teacher never interupts me, when I read during his lessons (BTW: at the moment Proved Innocent by Gerry Conlon). _________________ The question that sometimes drives me hazy: Am I, or the others crazy?

Question to whoever was reading Blood tears , is it more accessible than Anne Rices books on vampires because I cant seem to get into her books and I cant put my finger on why.
oh and captain Alatriste the author is Arturo Perze Reverte , a great spanish author , who doesnt get enough praise!. _________________ I always knew Chang was Chinese Intelligence.

I've just finished 'A short history of tractors in Ukrainian' by Marina Lewycka - the Economist said 'thought provoking, uproariously funny, a comic feast. A riotous oil painting of senility, lust and greed'.
I can only assume they must have read a different book to me for I found the amusing bits seldom and overall the book was profoundly depressing, time to get back to a bit of fantasy! _________________ "Constant Vigilance!" |

Futre4, I haven't read Anne Rice, but I had no trouble getting into Blood Tears. I would describe it as a story about love, loyalty, friendship and survival. The vampire angle is not the usual one at all. It's not gothic vampire horror.
Selik how would you describe it? _________________

I would say you've summed it up pretty well already, though I believe it's under the heading of a Dark Fantasy.
Lizzy's right though, it's a very different look on vampires, which I personally found far more enjoyable and refreshing than the stereotypical vampire novel.
Raven's book is available from amazon. In fact: http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss_w_h_/202-4421882-8574225?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Raven+Dane
reasonable price too _________________ "I sit on my arse, not my head." - Baron Gresse. |

Cool - Winter birth by Ruckley and I will endevour to get into Raven Dane also. If i do get into them I hope they have a few out , I am in the habit of getting into a new author and then realising they dont have a book due for like 6 months and my thirst cant be quenched , and given all my old fantasy books are all left in england , I move to an oppossite genre (hence why I am reading alot of crime fiction thrillers ). The advantage this trait has is it makes Fantasy that much more refreshing when i return to it. _________________ I always knew Chang was Chinese Intelligence.

So many reccomendations cheers . Trouble is im living on a budget at the moment and go to a 2nd hand bookshop so the pickings are randome at best , If i was a Dean Koontz fan (not sure how to spell) then id be the happiest guy on earth as this place is packed to the rafters with his stuff, I did pick up 'The portrait of Dorian Gray' for 5 dollars, I will nail that then I will search heartily for the reccomendations mentioned. _________________ I always knew Chang was Chinese Intelligence.

Just finished Shade's Children by Garth Nix. For those of you familiar with his work this is more science fiction than either the Keys to the Kingdom or Old Kingdom series but worth a read nevertheless
It is set in a future ruled by Overlords from another dimension where no one lives beyond the age of 14 except a few renegades who evade capture and and their relationship with each other, the enemy and their patriarch Shade.
Like all of his work it is a well crafted story and is eminently readable, I suspect it is aimed at teenagers though some of the language may not be suitable for those of a nervous disposition _________________ "Constant Vigilance!" |
