OK, I know it has been a bit of a slow year sportswise but Zara Phillips and you'd have thought that someone so well educated could have found something better to say than 'amazing' over and over again
And what the hell was Darren Clarke wearing
I think that Ricky Hatton, Beth Tweddle and Nicole Cook can justifiably feel disappointed _________________ "Constant Vigilance!" |

I dunno. She's a European and World champion, isn't she? Probably a worthy winner.
Trouble is, for the people that vote in this programme, boxing is a minority sport (and personally, I can't stand it either). WHatever you think, show jumping and three day eventing are big participation and spectator sports up and down the country and on every weekend. I know... my brother used to be married to an eventer. It's much bigger than you think.
Fair shout on Tweddle, though... our first ever gymnastics world champ. Fantastic achievement but simply not well publicised enough. Who should you blame for that? The sport's governing body, that's who. _________________ 'A human with a hand outstretched in friendship carries the fangs of a taipan in his palm.' A TaiGethen saying. |

Fair point! I've had time to think about it and maybe it wasn't such a bad choice she is, as you pointed out, World and European champion - and I know how popular equestrianism is as I used to attend far too many events with my ex-wife! I was hasty though my vote would still have gone to Beth Tweddle
....and I still want to know who told Darren Clarke he looked good in that suit _________________ "Constant Vigilance!" |

Yes but what actually is Sports personality of the year ??, i have no knowledge of the uk at all in the last 2 years but i do know that the person that wins it invariably (and ironically ) never seems to have a personality , what are they actually being judged on?. If it is what they have won that year then granted - yipee sports PERSON of the year , if they had some sort of personality test or rated on their quick wit or charity work then id be more likely to take it seriously .....or at least understand it. _________________ I always knew Chang was Chinese Intelligence.

It's true. It does recognise achievement not personality. It's an interesting one because I often wonder if achievement and personality are actually mutually exclusive most of the time. A great sportsperson has such single-minded focus it must be hard to snap out of it. Look at Schumacher for instance.
There are exceptions to this of course... _________________ 'A human with a hand outstretched in friendship carries the fangs of a taipan in his palm.' A TaiGethen saying. |
