Yesterday (or rather today around ten minutes past midnight ) I finished Cry of the Newborn and now I'm not sure what to read next. One the one hand I want to know how the Ascendants and also A Song of Ice and Fire continues on the other I might need a break from these Fantasy-Epics (and I fear that in Shout for the Death and Clash of Kings lots of terrible sad things will happen... )

The Awakening by Kelley Armstrong. A solid little young adult series.
Dead and Gone By Charlaine Harris, which was disappointing as it was sooo serious and I miss the fun. Read like an episode for the future of the series on HBO.
The Destroyer of Worlds by Mark Chadbourn .... ahhh its all over and now I have to reread everything just to get my head around it all _________________ The mirror crack'd from side to side |

Finished reading 'Cadian Blood', an absolutely storming piece of military sci-fi (Warhammer 40K tie-in) that was only slightly spoilt by some one dimensional characters that contrasted with the ones that were fleshed out better. My full review is over Here. I'm now well into Jonathan Green's 'Evolution Expects' and the continuing adventures of one Ulysses Quicksilver... _________________ Graeme's Fantasy Book Review

Read China Mieville's "Un Lun Dun". It's a really nice young adult novel, full of creatures only Mieville could imagine. And it's also a very nice play on the stereotypical youthful heroine, tall and blonde, chosen by prophecy to save her kingdom. His take on it is really refreshing. _________________

That's the only Mieville book I haven't read yet, I need to find myself a copy...
Finished Jonathan Green's 'Evolution Expects', more 'James Bond Steam Punk' with the adventures of Ulysses Quicksilver! Ulysses' escapades are as fun as ever but Green didn't leave himself an awful lot of room, to do everything that he wanted the book to do, and this resulted in a book that felt very disjointed at times. My full review is over Here. I'm now well into Nathalie Mallet's 'The King's Daughters'... _________________ Graeme's Fantasy Book Review

Im finally getting round to reading The Grave Thief. Im thinking I should have made time to re-read Stormcaller and Twilight Herald again first though as things are being mentioned I only half remember. _________________ "Right so we're going to steal a bomb that can be remote detonated, take it back to our base and then huddle around it? Finished reading Faith Hunter's 'Skinwalker', the opening book in a new series about a shapechanger who finds herself looking to take down a rogue vampire in New Orleans. You've probably heard it all before but don't let that put you off, 'Skinwalker' is very much a fun read although some of the explanatory pieces are laid on a bit thick. My full review is over Here. I've got loads of books that I'm finishing off right now (somehow didn't manage to finish a single thing that I took on holiday) including Jim Butcher's 'Furies of Calderon' and Erikson's 'Toll the Hounds' (I'm halfway through at the third attempt!) _________________ Graeme's Fantasy Book Review

I fancied a nice quick read (and a break from 'Toll the Hounds') and at only one hundred and forty pages, Nate Kenyon's 'Prime' was certainly that! This tale of a murder investigation, that spans both the virtual and real world, had lots to offer but I was left feeling that a few more pages could have made all the difference in fleshing this one out into something great. My full review is over Here. Now it's back to 'Toll the Hounds' and a couple of others that I'm finishing off... _________________ Graeme's Fantasy Book Review

A Storm of Swords: Blood and Gold. Superior, epic fantasy writing. Does Martin know how to write a bad word?! I doubt it; this is the most gripping series I've read in years. Great story, wonderful scale, doesn't cease to surprise. _________________ If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine. |

Finished reading Kat Richardson's 'Vanished'; an urban fantasy that had all the ingredients for something superb... except a decent lead character. Harper Blaine came across as far too lightweight to carry the story, my full review is over Here. I'm now onto the last hundred pages of 'Toll the Hounds' and am aiming to finish tonight... _________________ Graeme's Fantasy Book Review

Finished reading Dan Abnett's 'Blood Pact', latest in his 'Gaunt's Ghosts' series set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Apart from one minor niggle (jumping to conclusions without anything to base it on... and still being right!) this book hit all the right targets as far as I was concerned and I'm going to be searching out all the prior books in the series based on my enjoying this book. My full review is over Here. I'm now finishing off Nick Kyme's 'Salamander' and I've also got 'Wolfbreed' (S.A. Swann) on the go... _________________ Graeme's Fantasy Book Review

I read book one of 'Gaunt's Ghosts', 'The Founding: First and Only'. It would be fun to read but the Polish translation was awful. But I think the story itself is pretty good. _________________

Finished reading Nick Kyme's Warhammer 40K novel 'Salamander' this morning. The battle scenes are a little over the top, and it's very much a 'first book in a trilogy', but overall it was good fun to get into and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. My full review is over Here. I'm now well into 'Wolfbreed'... _________________ Graeme's Fantasy Book Review
