I've just finished reading Brandon Sanderson's 'The Well of Ascension', second in the 'Mistborn' series and a big improvement on the first book as far as I was concerned. Have a look at my full review over Here.
I'll be reading 'The Hero of Ages' shortly but thought I'd have a go at Ian Graham's 'Monument' first...

Just read Smoking Poppy by Graham Joyce. A man's quest to get his daughter out of a Thai prison, off heroin and reunite his fractured family.

Really really good and well written. Also a very insightful book into parent/child relations

Have just finished Gaiman's "The Graveyard Book". I really liked, it's a nice book both for children and adults. Plus - I spent first 18 years of my life in a flat overlooking an old graveyard, so this book may have a special appeal to me Wink

Just finished reading Ian Graham's 'Monument', a fantasy novel that reminded me of 'The Fugitive' albeit with a protagonist who really did do all the things he had been accused of...
'Monument' is a book that suffers from uneven pacing and sketchy world building but still manages to give the reader enough to keep them going up until the end where there's a twist that I never saw coming. A frustrating read but good fun nonetheless. My full review is over Here.
I'm now reading an ARC of Charles de Lint's 'The Mystery of Grace'...

I've just finished reading Bruce Cordell's 'Plague of Spells', a Forgotten Realms book dealing with events arising out of the Spellplague... It's a nice light (and fun) read for the tube but it never really becomes any more than that. It does have a Kraken though which is pretty cool. My full review is over Here.
I'm now onto L.E. Modesitt Jr's 'The Lord Protector's Daughter' which should take me nicely up to the weekend.

I've just finished reading Elizabeth Bear's 'All the Windwracked Stars', a part detective/fantasy/sci-fi tale of Valkyries living in the last city on a dying planet. A great concept and plot but so damn slow that I kept nodding off and having to go back to re-read the good bits... My full review is over Here.
I'm now reading 'Raven: Blood Eye' by Giles Kristian.

Ahh well I guess we are all different. For me it was the personal story and sacrifice that made it. But you won't have got to that.

Give House of the Stag a go at some point. I think you'll enjoy it.

Whilst not exactly leaping to Manty's defence (not this his personal views need defending) but I am about half way through and have to confess that it doesn't have me in the vice-like grip I was expecting! Shocked

I too struggle a bit with machines from another dimension but there is enough of the Raven in there to keep me going and I can see that it is building up to a crescendo - in the words of Magnus Magnussion 'I've started so I'll finish!' Very Happy

I figured the machines eating mana is sort of like machines in this world running on electricity. The Garonin machine need the life that is mana to function and to survive, much like pretty much everything in this world needs the power of electricity to function. Without that power, all that has been created would pretty much die.
But that's just how I saw it.

As someone who hasn't yet read Ravensoul, I can honestly say that machines eating mana sounds a bit like a spoiler.

Not sure how it relates to the story but it won't suprise me anymore when I get the book Razz
