My local Borders has a 'buy one, get one half price' sale on at the moment (maybe it's nationwide) on all its books (I think, but definitely the fantasy books). I bought a couple of Gemmell and Chadbourn books earlier this week, but feel like splashing the cash again!!!
Can anyone recommend some books that might be worth me taking a punt on? I like James' work (obviously), Gemmel, Chadbourn, Cobley and Brenchley but do want to read a little more outside these few authors. I'm sure people have mentioned Tad Williams before - is he worth a go?
I think I may buy a couple of Steven Erikkson books as I really enjoyed Gardens of the Moon, but I'm not sure what else to go for as thre's so much to choose from, so I'm appealing to the wisdom of my fellow forumites to point me in the right direction!!! _________________ If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine. |

If they have anything, I'd recommend the following:
Tad Williams (writes some very good high fantasy)
George RR Martin
Andrzej Sapkowski
Scott Lynch
Juliet McKenna
Terry Brooks
That should be enough for now _________________ Pagan Music |

The Erikson books are a must MP! the series gets nothing but better but them and read them in order.
Orcs too is good.
Melanie Rawn writes a cracking story too, she has several series out or partially done, Dragon Star and Dragon Prince being the two complete ones. |

I've got Orcs - read it about a year ago so might go back to it.
I've bought one of Erikson's follow-up books, but I need to get my hands on another before that (the shope was low on stock). _________________ If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine. |
