Have you ever picked up a book you fancy, read part of it, put it down and never gone back to?
Best example for me would be the 2nd chronicles of Thomas Covenant by Stephen Donaldson. Read the first lot, enjoyed them, picked up this brezzeblock of a book, got about half-way through before being distracted by work and stuff at home. That was about 2 years ago and I still can't bring myself to go back to it... decent enough read, though it's like swimming through treacle. _________________ Pagan Music |

Ah - there's another one, cheers fof reminding me Gen. Robin Hobb's first book in that Assassin's Apprentice trilogy. I can't abide 1st person books so that one got put down after about 50 pages and has since been given away. _________________ Pagan Music |

Admittedly not a fantasy, this particular one, but Iain Banks' 'Dead Air'. Now I would always give a book a far go, but 33 pages into it and i'm bored... really bored and I couldn't give a toss what happens to the characters.
Similarly Iain McEwan's 'Enduring Love' I did at A-level, again the same, though I was forced to sit and read it, but I hated it... oh and 'Of Mice and Men'. I can't stand that book (GCSE's), Hmm, I'm beginning to see a pattern emerging.
Fantasy wise, there's no book i've not been able to withstand so far. I did start Robin Hobbs' Shaman's Crossing and I put it down and never went back, but I do intend to, because it wasn't because I didn't like it that I put it down. _________________ "I sit on my arse, not my head." - Baron Gresse. |

I must admit I did the same with a Mark Chadbourn one, though it was years ago and I can't remember whether it was the 2nd or 3rd one... anyway, the point where I put it down was where the characters were all on a boat with the T-Danan lot heading off to somewhere I can't remember.
Odd really, you'd think it'd have got interesting sailing off to another realm as it were...
But I WILL go back to these. Lizzy's vehement support of them over the last year or so has convinced me I should!
edit: sly little one as per Lou's advice! _________________ Pagan Music

I suspect Mark C wouldn't give two hoots how you spell his name, long as you buy his books _________________

I struggled with The tales of Lankhmar from Fritz Leiber. Loved them as a youngster but had to stop reading about a 1/3 way through this year. _________________ Member and President of the Will Begman Appreciation Society.
