I found this on Iain Bank's forum:
The Daily Telegraph is carrying out what they call The Great British Literary Census. To publicise this there is the results of a survey of Waterstone's staff which produced another Top 100 books list.
See http://www.telegraph.co.uk/arts/main.jhtml?xml=/arts/campaigns/bestbooks/bestbooks.xml
I've read 9, got 3 or 4 on my 'to read list' and seen film versions of another 11.
(who wants a bet Parm has read them all ? ) _________________

I've read 16 of those, with many more on my list. Not bad going in 16 years really. _________________ Taking off is optional, landing is mandatory. |

One completed census. I've not bothered with the Top 100... may do later. _________________ Pagan Music |

I've read three on there. And an old work colleague from the Inland Revenue still has my copy of 'Magician' by Raymond Feist. I want it back..!! _________________ Pagan Music |

have to admit i have not read all of the top 100 mainly becasue alot of them are self grandising twaddle, literati who write pompous crap just to seem clever.
Driz yes i do aim to have a table for the fancon at least for the sat maybe sunday as well depending on cost.

I've read 5 (+ one, which I started, and never finished) and watched 3 movie-versions . _________________ The question that sometimes drives me hazy: Am I, or the others crazy?

Read 10
Gave up reading another
Seen film versions of quite a few
I would recommend The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time to people if they've not read it yet. Funny, sad and a fascinating insight into Aspberger's syndrome. _________________ If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine. |

Interesting!, I have read but 6 maybe 7 of them . I know everythign I say here is subjective but I dont think the Dahl choice was a good one , Danny the champion of the world was better . Similarly Red Dragon is a far better Harris book. And Im more than a little annoyed that there isnt a Robert Ludlum novel in there , this guy outguns the best thriller writers in the world. No Steven King ?, or indeed Clancy, Archer or Michael Crichton . I know its waterstones staff and im ranting for no reason I just like to conplain at the moment, especially given how bad Newcastle are. _________________ I always knew Chang was Chinese Intelligence.
