this also looks good

Sunshine (2007)
The Sun is being destroyed from inside out by a type of highly stable form of matter that renders nuclear fusion impossible, by turning common matter on its own kind. The only hope is to send a team of astronauts to detonate a massive, highly energetic bomb, able able to destroy this strange matter and restore Sun's natural state.

That's a pretty unbelievable premise.

The outer-most layer of the sun can reach 1,000,000?K, whereas Tantalum Hafnium Carbide, one of the compounds most resistant to heat known to humanity, melts at 4488?K. The outer-most layer resides about 100 times the earth's diameter from the core.

Good luck trying to get a bomb into the core of the sun with those odds stacked against you.

Not to mention, you'd need an unbelievable amount of energy to make a difference to the core. According to Wikipedia, the power in the core of the sun is 383 yottawatts (that's right, yottawatts!). Which is apparently equivalent to 99 trillion megatons of TNT. By comparison, the most powerful bomb on record, which was exploded by the Soviets in 1961 (Tsar Bomba) was a 50 megaton explosion, or 5.4 yottawatts. That's damn powerful, but not compared to the core of the sun.

If I was a scientist in this scenario, I'd focus on trying to get humanity off the Earth and colonising new planets, or somehow developing ways for the Earth to cope without sunlight. Or a mixture of both perhaps.

no 300 should have had content, but it was all about arty angles and slo mo scenes, action is supposed to be fast so you dont have time to analyse it and think to much.

Yes, it was BASED on history. It took the bits it liked, like the heroism and so forth, and left out the bits they didn't, such as the homosexuality and the fact there were about 7,000 as opposed to 300.
