The first Fantasy book I read was either The endless Story or The last unicorn, but I think it was Harry Potter, that really made me read a lot of Fantasy. _________________ The question that sometimes drives me hazy: Am I, or the others crazy?

Speaking of which, I never took much interest in when 'Philosopher's Stone' was first published. When did the Harry Potter series start, cos I know I got into it fairly late. In fact it was only when they were about to start the filming of the first movie that I was forced into reading the book and enjoyed it. _________________ "I sit on my arse, not my head." - Baron Gresse. |

Selik - Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone came out in June 1997 (according to amazon's publishing dates).
I personally didn't start reading them until 2002 - which is quite late into the series. I think Goblet of Fire was the book that came out that year. _________________ A very happy Yule to all!!

Well I got the first three books as a present, I think in 99, and I read them all in one night... _________________ The question that sometimes drives me hazy: Am I, or the others crazy?

I started reading them in my last year at school, which would be....2002. Forced into reading the first and then I read them all as I could find them after that.
The past two I've got on the day they were released, or rather at midnight. Those book queues outside the shopping centre are fun. Particularly since it's usually only insane adults who sit and wait at the front of the queue for over 4hrs. _________________ "I sit on my arse, not my head." - Baron Gresse. |

My dad bought the last one from Asda at about 1am after picking me up from a night out. There's me sat in the passenger seat, quite merry at 1am, with a Harry Potter book...
Maybe if I'd read it whikle drunk it'd be a better read... _________________ Pagan Music |

I always dabbled in fantasy books but Dawnthief was the one that really sucked me in , till then i was a Robert ludlum man all the way!.
I read all the harry potters and then got lazy and decided just to listen to the cds instead of re-reading them, hey its quicker. Incidentally the 3rd one is the best book (will that cause an uproar?) _________________ I always knew Chang was Chinese Intelligence.

first scifi i really got into was th Sky Lords trilogy which I still believe to be the best three books I have ever read to this day but fantasy only really hooked me after picking up the silmarilion and finding this immense world hidden in a book and just had to read LOTR after that. Though have to say I never really gave it much thought as a genre till Dawnthief when I found myself getting some kind of withdrawl symptoms from the book at meal times and finally feeling blessed at the end, finding out there was a sequal. _________________ "Rhyming monkeys are rarer!" |

Hello I'm a newbie and though a good way to start was tell you how I found fantasy and science fiction. Came to it late after getting so bored with general fiction and wanted a change. The first book I picked up was Thomas Covenant, not the easiest book to start with but read then all one after another and was hooked from then on. Went on to read David Eddings, Raymond Fiest, R A Salvatore, and many more. Have read all the Raven books and they have become some of my favourite books and love the new series.
