Ariel I agree the Harry Dresden books are amazing. Harry is by far one of my favourite literary characters. Jim Butcher is a superb writer and any sex that happens to be in the books isn't purely for the purposes of filling pages. Crimes need solving and all that!!

So, Jen, what do you think of the way the Sci-Fi TV series is shaping up?

Has the series started in the US? I thought it had been delayed?

Just for the record (and Hello Ariel!) I like the Butcher books - I'm up to book 5 now I think and have reviewed the first 4 or so with glee. (James Marsters from Buffy reads the audio versions excellently, too - didn't realise it was him when I first heard it). The TV series sounds very good, and I think the person they've got for Harry will be excellent.

Haven't read it myself (yet) but I've had it highly praised from people I know - if it's werewolves you like, then Kim Whitfield's Bareback / Beknighted is excellent. And I like Jack Williamson's (RIP) Darker than You Think, though quite dated now.

Darn, that's another thread off topic. Are there any more recent vamp books worth mentioning? Douglas Clegg's Vampiricon series seems to be getting a lot of praise...

I've seen the man playing Harry and I'm personally not impressed. He just doesn't look like Harry does in my head!

If it comes onto any TV channels I've got then I'll certainly give it a watch. Smile

Hobbit - Summer Knight is great and when you get to it Dead Beat is just amazing.

I know what you mean there, Jen: I thought Harry would be older, myself. The actor was a bad guy in 24 - (Series 3?) but I thought he was pretty good there.

I know these things change when they get to TV (or film!), but at least I'm interested. I think James Marsters with dark hair would've worked too.

Thanks for the Heads up on the rest too Jen: they're in the pile! Wink

Hello Hobbit, nice to see you here. James Marsters should be utilised more IMO.

I think the thing that has surprised me was how different Marsters was in the audiobooks. See also his part in the recent series of Smallville; I was reminded the other day that he was in an episode of Millennium, which I'd forgotten.

This does make me sound like a rabid fan out for publicity: as a counterpoint, I must admit that I did think his part in Buffy (and Angel for that matter) was overrated, particularly if you listen to some of the superheated comments made by some.... but what did surprise me was that by just listening to the voice, James got it right, for me at any rate.

Since this has turned in to a be of a Jim Butcher related area I thought I'd pop this in here.
Just found out from Orbit that Proven Guilty the Dresden book after Dead Beat is due out for release over here in April 2007. Personally I'm very excited.

On the same sort of subject to anyone who enjoys Mr Butchers books or any supernatural crime novels I would strongly recommend that on 21st June 2007 you find a book called Hunter's Moon by David Devereux. Gollancz are publishing it. Its just bloody fantastic. Very Happy

Pretty good, though a little too graphic on the nookie for my tastes.
