 French Convention dates confirmed

Les Imaginales d'Epinal is a sci fi and fantasy convention held in the north east of France in the town of Epinal (surprisingly enough).

It runs from Thursday 19th May, finishing Sunday 22nd May. I will be appearing there as one of their Guests of Honour.

I haven't final details of all the programming at the con but I am there the whole time so if anyone is passing through and wants a chat, a book signed or whatever, I'll be around.

The convention is being sponsored by Bragelonne, my excellent French publishers so no doubt other authors from the stable will be there too.

 WorldCon appearance dates confirmed

Interaction (WorldCon 2005) is in Glasgow this year and UK fans will have a unique opportunity to catch up with many of the great and the good of the Sci Fi and Fantasy genres in one place. Authors, agents, publishers, fans...

I'll be there from Thursday 4th August (pm) to Sunday 7th August (am). Hopefully I'll be doing a reading, mass signing, panels and maybe even a literary beer. Details to come but I'll be knocking about the place the whole time and happy to chat to all and sundry.

 New PS Publishing novella underway

Work has begun on new PS Publishing novella. This time it's a departure from the land of Balaia where the first one was set. Says James: 'I've had this idea for a comedy knocking around my head for quite a while now. I knew it wouldn't make a full novel so when Pete Crowther at PS invited me to write another novella, the opportunity was too good to pass up.'

This will be James' first stab at comedy in the fantasy genre. It's about a problem in a classic fantasy world. The evil guys are killing the heroes. It simply won't do. Something fishy is going on and it's got nothing to do with the latest hero eau de toilette. Yellowjack, Hero scribe and a man worried about his future career prospects (oh, and the fate of the land but you have to get your priorities straight) decides to investigate. And in a way, he is right and courageous to take that decision. In every other way, you know, the ones involving danger to life, limb, mind and personal belongings, that sort of thing, it is a very stupid decision indeed.

No publication date set as yet.

 Ascendants progress update

A snapshot for you... the manuscript is even now on its way back to me on a specially strengthened mail trolley. It's been through the first and most detailed editing stage and my editor, Simon Spanton, reports very few issues. Indeed, he has enjoyed it very much. 'A thousand page manuscript... lucky it was such a cracking read.'

Ball back in my court. Urgent turnaround required along with a detailed map for art working. Still, it'll keep me off the streets. Publication date in the UK still slated for October 2005.
